Submissions

We want you to be Crispy!

Technology is tough — it keeps changing and it’s hard to keep up. And why should a comic creator need to worry so much about this stuff anyways? Does Brian Michael Bendis approve the ink that is used to print the newest issue of Avengers? At Crispy Comics we want to share our specially created Crispy Comic Viewer with you. Since Apple has a strict approval process we can’t make it open source right now, but we want to find the next big concept and help take it to the mobile world.

Okay, hold on, before every indie creator fires us an email, please bear in mind that we have very, very specific requirements. Because we are a small operation we just don’t have time to respond to submissions that don’t follow the process below:

Right now, as of March 2009, we’re only looking for fully developed comics. Comics, that is, where the full team — writer, artist, colorist, etc. — is ready to start working and has a complete submission package which will include:

  • 3-page (maximum) written synopsis (succinct and catchy, we can deterime the format later)
  • 3-5 pages of character designs and concepts. (this will be the obvious attention getter, so make it count)
  • 1 Application form (download it here, must be signed too!)

KEEP IN MIND: We’re not taking old comics and reformatting them for mobile screens. There are many other companies doing that, like iVerse and uClick for instance. We’re only interested in specifically-created-for-the-mobile-screen comics. If you are a webcomic creator then you are probably a lot closer to being able to easily re-format your comics to this new screen size, but we also look more favorably on totally original creations that will see their first light on this new platform.

If you are the next Todd McFarlane, you might be frustrated with the size as “double-page spreads” do not exist, but this the chance to allow for a new kind of interactive storytelling that people have never seen before. Your creativity will come in and form new pacing and storytelling and could possibly revolutionize the format.

You own your property 100% and when we begin to monetize the profits from the digital publishing stream, Crispy will take a small percentage to keep our operation rolling. We are just interested in getting awesome new comics out to the masses, everything else that comes after that like merchandise and games is gravy.

If you are still interested and can follow the rules, then you need to download this form with its step-by-step instructions on sending your submission to us electronically. We will try our best to respond to as many as we can via email.

Good luck Autobot! See you in Cynosure.
